Social media got a new #hype - Threads App.
Meta launched the threads app (Instagram's text-based conversation app) on 4 July, 23 and it seems that the platform has got its popularity as the number of sign up denotes it (5M sign-ups as of 6 July, 23).
But still, I think there's something wrong with the Threads app.
The thread app is said to be a Twitter rival, but I don't see any such potential.
There are a few points in my consideration and with those I am concluding the above statement.
Let's begin,
First of all, Threads entered the market when we all started considering social media, Toxic. This makes it hard for people to get in on the platform if they could see no value being shared.
I think Meta did it wrong when they connected the Threads app with Instagram directly. This would let all the flooding from Instagram, crash on the Threads, resulting, in Threads, being just a photo-sharing platform and not thoughts. I already started seeing such posts on the second day itself.
Twitter is perfectly fine. People started feeling uncomfortable on Twitter just because of some recent creepiness from Elon. Otherwise, no one has any complaints about the platform itself.Β
It's very hard to convince people to leave any existing platform, their years of dedication, people invested a lot on Twitter.
I don't have any final thoughts though, these are just my intuition on the Threads app.
Using the Threads app gave me the feeling when, as a child, someone use to give me a new cool toy and after playing with it for just a few days I use to return to my #always favorite toy. I guess Thread is not to stay here for a very long time.
Do you remember the Clubhouse app, that allows users to connect with others through live audio conversations? There was a lot of talking about it as it entered the market but after some initial popularity the app saw its downfall, and the Threads app may join the same club. What do you think?
The app used a few jargon. Threads is planned to run on the Fediverse platform in the future. I am yet to explore this. And so no points are concrete here.
But I will always try staying loyal to Twitter unless I could see a convincing benefit and value in switching.
Till then Happy Threading to you ππ
